Online Guide: How to find the best wig for your face shape

How to find the best wig for your face shape

Just like wigs come in all different shapes and sizes, so do faces. Every person has a unique shape to their face which is basically dependent on their bone structure.

When choosing a beautiful wig to purchase, it is crucial to first determine the shape of your face. Once you have determined that, you can choose a wig that will suit you perfectly and make you look fantastic.

While everyone has a different face shape, there are about six broad categories in which your face shape will fall. The different shapes are oval, round, square, diamond, heart, and oblong. Certain hairstyles suit different face shapes, enhancing your natural features and hiding some things you might be self-conscious about.

This online guide will help you to determine the shape of your face and then advise on which wig or hairstyles styles suit your unique features in order to help you find the perfect wig for you.

Determining your unique face shape and how to choose a wig that compliments it

The first step to determine the shape of your face is by ensuring that all of your natural hair is pulled away from your face. You can either look in a mirror or at a photograph of yourself in which you look straight at the camera.

When looking into a mirror you can use a bar of soap, cream, or anything else that you will be able to wash away later. Trace the outline of your face to see what the shape of your face is.

Alternatively, you can take a pencil and trace the outline of your face on a photograph. This will clearly show you what the shape of your face is, after which you can compare it to the shapes below.

    Oval

Oval faces usually consist of a jaw that is narrower than the cheekbones. This face shape is very common amongst women and all of the features are proportionate to one another. People who have an oval shaped face can pull off most looks. Thus, you can opt for almost any hairstyle, length and cut. You can choose from long, short, curly or straight hair. The only thing you should be wary of are heavy, long, or blunt bangs. These kinds of bangs could make your face look shorter.

    Round

Just because you are curvy, it does not automatically mean that you have a round face. Round faces are full and can make you look youthful. People with a round face have a wider hairline, fullness below the cheekbones and a circular form. If you have a round face, the length and width of your face will be about the same. The aim of the game with a round shaped face is to elongate your facial lines. Longer styles with lots of layers and volume, combined with some height at your crown, will make your cheeks look narrower. Avoid wigs with centre partings and very short styles, as this can make your face look fuller than it really is. Try going for shoulder length or longer hairstyles.

    Square

If your face is in the shape of a square, you will ten to have a wider chin and forehead, and sometimes your jawline and forehead will be the same width. This face shape usually creates beautiful jawlines and strong cheekbones. With this shape you have quite a few options. You could go for shorter wigs or layered bobs that finish just above your jaw. If you like longer hair, longer curls could soften the shape of your face, but avoid long, straight hair, as this could make it seem like your jawline protrudes. Be careful not to add too much volume to the sides of your face, because it can make your face look wider than it actually is. Usually, the best is to go with wigs that are shoulder length or that consist of short layers.

    Diamond

If you have a diamond shaped face, your hairline and chin will be narrower with wider cheekbones. Bob styles and short hair work fantastically well with this face shape. If you prefer longer hair, opt for side-parted bangs or medium to long layers. In terms of styling your longer hair, you are free to choose from straight or wavy hair.

    Oblong

Oblong shaped faces are usually longer than they are wide. Your forehead, cheeks and jawline will all be the same width. You might want to look for a wig with a lot of volume that can widen the look of your face. Curls or a bob that is full at your cheeks or jawline will look fantastic. Longer hair that, once again, has some volume at your jawline, will look great too.

    Heart

People with heart shaped faces have a narrower chin and a forehead that is wider than the jaw. Wigs that are chin length or longer, as well as wigs with a side-sweeping fringe, look fantastic on this face shape. Forward-sweeping layers around the face also suit the heart shaped face. Avoid styles that are short and full.
